Tell Me More About Now What/Decisional Questions

The Now What question is all about action back on the job. Here are a few questions you can use.

  • What will you do differently back on the job?
  • What action does this trigger for you?
  • How will you use this information in your work?
  • What one action will you take tomorrow?
  • What change are you going to make when you return to your job?
  • What will it take for you to apply what you’ve learned today?
  • How has this experience changed your thinking?
  • How would you describe this experience to someone who was not here?

You can read more about Focused Conversation in this quick handout.

Tell Me More About Memory Palaces

Memory Palaces are an interesting way to remember a lot of details. I read about them first in the book Moonwalking with Einstein.

Here is a helpful and visual guide to creating your own palace.

Tell Me More About A Systematic Approach to Analysis, Design, & Development

That’s a lot for a quick paragraph!

The process is designed to first ANALYZE if your issue can be solved with training or if there is a more appropriate approach. Once you determine that you have a training issue, you determine exactly what tasks you want people to do ON THE JOB in order to perform to the expected standard. Once the tasks are identified, objectives can be set and the instructional methods and structure is DESIGNED. With the methods in place, you then DEVELOP the supporting materials (handouts and instructor guide) and relevant visuals. Then you IMPLEMENT training, piloting and revising. Finally, you EVALUATE your training based upon the data you gathered during the assessment phase. Then you do it all over again creating a systematic, iterative process.

Here is a good overview of the ADDIE model and its component parts.

I’m teaching a 3 day Fundamentals for Professional Trainers class for the Association For Talent Development here in Sacramento at the beginning of June. It’s a great way to dig into all of ADDIE.

Tell Me More About Group Analysis/Problem Solving Techniques

We can use many different methods from meeting facilitating and group problem solving in the training environment. My go to source for all things problem solving is the handy little Memory Jogger book.
